Sderot young adults support Gilad Shalit

02.06.2010

Last evening, a group of young Sderot residents surprised the audience of the Southern film festival, held at Sderot’s movie theatre, and broke into “Flash mob” dancing to the sound of the song “Free”. During the dance, which was initiated by the Netivim Center (Center for Sderot’s students and young adults), the participants posted stickers, wore yellow ribbons, which is symbol of the struggle to free Gilad Shalit, and at the end, hung up large posters with Gilad’s picture. The audience, both surprised and thrilled by the initiative, gave a round of applause to the dancers expressing their support for this unique demonstration. Yigal Bracha, the head of the Netivim Center, explained the impetus for the initiative, “Our wish for Gilad to survive the difficult situation he is currently in motivated us to join in the struggle and no longer sit on the sidelines.”
In addition to the activists from the Netivim Center, key leadership groups within the city joined the flash mob including the Ketsev group, the Mitzad group, activists from the Mishol Project, the City’s young adults leadership group, the youth committee and students from Sapir College. The dance was choreographed by young dancers from the “Dance” studio in Sderot.
