Regional Development of Early Childhood Programs

last updated: October 11, 2009

The state of Israel, which in the past did not invest many resources in early childhood, has promoted a program called “New Beginning” since 2006.  This is a national project initiated by Ms. Aliza Olmert and expresses Israel’s increased involvement in and commitment to the state’s youngest citizens.

New Beginning is led by Sderot’s Center for Early Childhood and operates in the north-western Negev area, with the partnership and support of the Schusterman Foundation-Israel.  The program is carried out with an intra-region partnership model for the benefit of all the region’s children within the municipalities of Sderot and Netivot and the regional councils of Sedot Negev and Shaar HaNegev.

The program identifies children with developmental delays and treats them in the framework of their preschool settings. New Beginning also offers courses and seminars, a Treatment Unit and other regional projects, working with local municipalities to advance programs for early childhood on a regional and local level simultaneously.
