SderotYouth.com

Last updated January 4, 2010

In our modern world, messages are both fast and short, images change in a nanosecond, information endlessly multiplies and anyone can star in the headline of a website, a newspaper, on YouTube, Twitter or Facebook.  Young people growing up in this world are fascinated by it but also endangered by it;  dealing with everything immediate, instant, shallow and public cuts us off from our values and from society.

SderotYouth.com  is a media center and welcomes curious teens to discover their creative abilities and to define their world of values and the society around them.  This exploration takes place in the framework of courses in photography (stills and video), video editing, journalism, marketing and public relations, constructing websites and creating animation.

The goals of SderotYouth.com are: instilling values in our youth; guiding youth through various digital media skills; encouraging communication with value between youths; initiating social change; encouraging youths to volunteer and contribute to the community; development of young leadership; developing skills (personal & professional) among Sderot’s youths through creative activity and thought.

As part of their group activities, participants build a website where they post digital content of their creation.  The web URL is advertised in Sderot through local newsletters.  Twice a year the participants in SderotYouth.com programs produce a photography exhibit for the city’s public, where they display stills they have taken during the year.  Participants also volunteer for media positions in city-wide events, as part of their activities to support the community.

SderotYouth.com operates three groups: one for children in 5th and 6th grade, one for young teens in 7th and 8th grade, and one for 9th-12th graders.  Each group meets weekly for at least three hours.
